NewsFelix Dodds - Global Green Change Catalyst

Felix Dodds is the Liberal Democrat candidate for Mid-Derbyshire in the 2019 General Election and has been President of Amber Valley Liberal Democrats since 2013, with long links to the county. Having said that, he has spent many years engaged in global policy making on environment and sustainable development issues - first at the UN Association then UNED-UK which became Stakeholder Forum.

Felix was the Executive Director of the Stakeholder Forum from 1992 to 2012 making it one of the most successful UK sustainable development organisations. He has over thirty years of environmental activity in the UK and was one of the leaders of the "Green Guard" for the Young Liberals in the 1980s helping to green the party. He was national chair of the YLs in 1985-87 and in his final speech as chair of the Young Liberals, Dodds called for "a rainbow alliance on the left in British politics" an idea that may be more relevant than ever more than twenty years later!

Publishing forward thinking ideas

In preparation for the Copenhagen Climate Summit in 2009, which he attended, he edited a book on Climate and Energy Insecurity.

On Biodiversity he edited with the head of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity Ahmed Djoghlaf a book on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Insecurity.

On the Oceans he helped the Kenya government with the 2018 Blue Economy Conference and in particular on the issue of setting up a Blue Economy Investment Facility.

Views of others...

His work in the international arena has attracted some very supportive comments from a good number of International Leaders, some of which you can see below...

"Felix has been a true global leader, a unique person with the capacity to define
global issues, based on an in-depth understanding of the concerns and priorities
of stakeholders at all levels. Such a breath of vision is rare, and we feel
privileged to have been able to work so closely with Felix
throughout the Rio+20 process
."

Paula Caballero Gomez, Director, Directorate of Economic, Social and
Environmental issues of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Republic of Columbia (2012)

"It takes a special kind of stamina to survive international processes and
negotiations. It takes a very special person to make sense of it all and
to help others do the same. And it takes a very, very special person to
have fun at the same time.
Meet Felix Dodds - a very, very special person
."

Rachel Kyte, former Vice President of Sustainable Development, World Bank (2012)

"Felix has been a passionate campaigner for people's involvement in the
central challenges of our time - how to balance our consumption of
natural resources with the earth's capacity, at the same time as addressing
global inequality and poverty. He has enormously enriched the global
intellectual debate on sustainability issues, and has been
a "thought leader" of his age
."

Crispian Olver, Former South African Director General Department of
Environmental Affairs and Tourism (2012)
