UNIVERSAL WATER METERING COULD EASE DROUGHT FEARS - BAKER

26 Nov 2003

Commenting on the Environment Agency's warning that much of England and Wales could face serious water shortages next year, Norman Baker MP, Liberal Democrat Shadow Environment Secretary, said:

"After the dry summer and autumn, we are using more water than we can afford and we need to find ways of using water more sustainably.

"The Government's house building plans in the South East could complicate matters further.

"The Government must now take steps to promote water efficiency measures in homes and introduce universal water metering to act as a break on consumption."
