Green Liberal Democrats

The Green Liberal Democrats (GLD) is a campaigning organisation seeking to maximise the influence of the Party on sustainability. The GLD helps develop policies to tackle issues ranging from climate change and biodiversity loss to light pollution and over-packaging. It works with the Party's national policy working groups; Councillors; MPs; MEPs; and individuals, providing ideas, information and advice.

The GLD publishes the influential quarterly magazine Challenge and is developing a range of other publications, including a How Green Is Your Council? checklist.

The GLD annual weekend conference brings together experts from within and outside the Party to discuss current sustainability issues both in the mainstream of current political debate and those that are likely to move up the political agenda as their importance becomes more widely understood.

The GLD is particularly concerned that some local authorities are failing to take sustainability sufficiently seriously, especially in terms of tackling climate change and waste reduction. One aim is to set up a support network of experts able to advise individual Councillors and Council Groups on the problems that they may face and initiatives that they could consider.

The GLD also recognises that many individual Liberal Democrats would like to do more to 'green' their own lives and therefore aims to provide help and advice on what can be done, including differentiating between the effective and ineffective.
