Funding For Local Parks Agreed

The Labour Council Cabinet have finally agreed to release over £300,000 for improvements to parks in an area within a mile of Heatherton. This was part of the 'planning gain' or 'Section 106' contribution from Heatherton developers to improve outdoor leisure in the area. Over £50,000 is also available for Heatherton Community Centre.

The parks money will be used for a range of improvements. These include extending the cycle/walking route through Millennium Wood to Oaklands Avenue, picnic tables and disabled fishing points for Heatherton Pond, and new play equipment in Sunnydale and Haven Baulk Lane Parks.

Friends of Littleover Parks (FoLP) have been involved in developing this scheme of work and at the Council Cabinet meeting Cllr Lucy Care thanked them and asked that they continue to be involved in this next phase too.

There may be other grants that FoLP can apply for to do even more for local parks, with this S106 money to 'match' against.
