(Sorry if you already accessed this page and it did not work properly - technical hitch which is now sorted!)

Calling all councillors, PPCs and, particularly, Councillor Candidates for 2019!!!

Green Liberal Democrats have got together with ALDC to organise two training sessions especially directed at Liberal Democrats who propose to stand in their local areas for the 2019 set of Local Elections. Both sessions will be held on Saturday 15th September in the Consort Room of the Grand Hotel in Brighton.

The sessions will run from 10am to noon and will be repeated from 3pm to 5pm and each session will be limited to 16 delegates. Coffee and Danish will be provided for delegates in both the morning and the afternoon sessions. There will be no charge for the training sessions but donations WILL be accepted. We anticipate a strong demand for these sessions so early registration of interest is suggested. Please download the form below, complete and scan it, and email it back to keith.melton10@gmail.com to register your interest, specifying your preference for either the morning session 10.00 - 12.00 or the afternoon session 15.00 - 17.00. If you are not concerned which session you attend please tick both boxes. If you do not have access to a scanner, please just email the relevant information directly to Keith Melton at his email address above.

Why should I attend?

There are a number of reasons for committing to this training session, not the least of which is that it will facilitate you becoming an accredited Green Liberal Democrat candidate...

Reasons for attending GLD/ALDC Training session at Conference

Prepare for GLD accreditation (need also to join GLD!). GLD accreditation can be used to publicise your specific Green credentials, which may help gain votes, help in local negotiations with the Green Party, if appropriate, and help generally with publicity, specifically in areas where environmental problems can be, or have been, identified.

Gain overall understanding of SCALE of environmental problems. Do not get caught out by green questioning at local hustings during the campaign. Be proactive in publicising the need for environmental action in your area. Gain support from topic specific action groups by knowing as much or more than they do.

Discover range of information resources - GLD and external. Green Liberal Democrats and ALDC both specialise in finding sources of information and support for campaigning ideas, reasons for holding specific campaigns, access to outside speakers and so on. Short-circuit the work YOU need to do by following the ideas your membership of GLD will bring you.

Discover ALDC support mechanisms/campaigning support. The ALDC has a long track record of supporting local election candidates in their campaigning efforts. Discover, if you do not yet know, how ALDC can help you.

Campaigning suggestions - Case material. These training sessions will include interaction with Councillors, former councillors and activists who have all had direct experience of campaigning on environmental issues of all kinds. Learn the wrinkles of creating winning campaign ideas from experienced people

Focus stories to tell. We will provide, through ALDC`s campaigning support, pre-prepared focus material which you can cut and paste into your own focus campaigns, saving you time and adding our specific expertise for you to use locally.

Model Council Resolutions. We will work to provide model council resolutions that you can adapt and use in your councils, as and WHEN you get elected!
