Motion for the 2018 Annual General Meeting Proposed by the Executive.

THIS MOTION WAS PASSED

Membership FeeS and challenge

The Meeting notes that:

  1. Producing Challenge consumes a large proportion of membership income, in the region of £4 per member per edition.
  2. A printed, physical Challenge is valued by our members.
  3. The introduction of direct debit membership and a Youth wing has increased our membership and made the need to fund other activities more acute.
  4. The environmental cost of print magazines compared to electronic formats must be borne in mind.
  5. The increasing availability of members via email for essential communications.

The Meeting recommends that:

  1. Standard membership fees be maintained at £20 per annum, and £2 per month
  2. Minimum membership fees of £15pa and £1.75pm be abolished
  3. Concessionary membership fees be maintained at £12pa and £1.25pm
  4. A new Youth membershp fee of £1 per annum, only in cash, be introduced, for eligible Youth Members
  5. Hard copy Challenge production be reduced to one issue a year, in a longer format than the current 28 pages, posted to members and for sale on our stalls.
  6. To dovetail with our requirement for a mandatory member mailing to announce the AGM and provide a nomination form for elections, It is suggested that the edition be in June/July.
  7. Monthly or bi-monthly short form Challenge editions be produced in a compact (e.g. <1MB) PDF format, published for general download and on-site consumption on the website with emails to members providing a summary of the contents and link.
  8. Updated versions of the articles in the short form editions will appear in the long form, with illustrations, discussion and responses.
  9. Essential communications will be by email where possible, and letter where not. Members will be strongly encouraged to provide us with an email address.
  10. Members currently paying on older rates by standing order or direct debit will be treated as legacy members with full rights. However, evidence will be required to maintain qualification for any youth or concessionary memberships, as normal.
