4.00pm-5.00pm Saturday 4th July
Speakers: Eduardo Goncalves (CEO Ban Trophy Hunting) and Catherine Bearder (Former MEP)
Chairs: Pippa Heylings, Keith Melton

Killing animals for pleasure is cruel, unnecessary, and has no place in a civilised society. Humans have no right to take the life of an animal for recreation. Animals experience suffering and pain when they are hunted for trophies. Killing endangered wildlife for pleasure only helps push them even further towards extinction. The Campaign to Ban Trophy Hunting calls for:
* Governments to ban trophy hunting and the import and export of hunting trophies
* Effective enforcement of existing national and international laws against trophy hunting, with tough penalties for offenders
* An immediate halt to the trade in trophies of vulnerable, threatened or endangered species
* Trophy hunting exemptions to be removed from existing international conservation agreements
* Negotiations to commence on a comprehensive global agreement banning trophy hunting

Eduardo Goncalves (CEO Ban Trophy Hunting)

Eduardo Goncalves

Eduardo Gonçalves is author of the best-seller "Trophy Hunters Exposed: Inside the Big Game Industry" (foreword: Sir Ranulph Fiennes) and "Killing Game: The Extinction Industry" (foreword: Jane Goodall). He led SOS Lynx's successful campaign to prevent the first-ever extinction of a big cat in modern times.

As CEO of the League Against Cruel Sports he thwarted moves to bring back fox-hunting and instead persuaded the government to raise animal cruelty sentences to 5 years. In 2018, he founded the Campaign to Ban Trophy Hunting which is today supported by some of Britain's leading public figures (www.bantrophyhunting.org)

The Daily Mail calls him "Britain's most prominent anti-hunting activist". The Daily Mirror bestowed its 'Animal Hero Award' on him in 2019 for services to wildlife.

Whilst she was the MEP for SE England, Catherine was involved in MEPs4Wildlife, cross-party interest group set up in February 2015, brought together MEPs from across the political spectrum who are passionate about ending wildlife crime both within the European Union and further afield. As a group they aim to raise awareness at a European level about the threat posed by wildlife crime, now the fourth-largest illegal trade in the world.
