The General Election was a busy time for all of us, so you may have missed our Green Heroes Campaign on the GLD website?! We have no sure way of telling if it made any difference to votes, but we do know it was noticed (if anyone out there is ready to do a Ph.D. in political activism, there's a research project right there!) If you did not see it at the time visit our website and have a look at how we tried to boost our Green Heroes, from Pippa Heylings, our GLD exec member, through MP Wera Hobhouse, to Sir Ed Davey, MP, now our Party`s acting leader. And many, many, more!

They came from all parts of the United Kingdom: Somerset, Sussex East and West, and Yorkshire (4 from each), Cornwall (2), Cambridgeshire, Derbyshire, Gloucestershire, Lancashire, London, Northamptonshire, Suffolk, Surrey, Wales and Wiltshire.

Their particular interests ranged from reducing greenhouse gas emissions to plastics pollution, sustainable products and supply chains, biodiversity and ecosystem insecurity. They covered public education of voters on the climate emergency, decarbonisation of capitalism, divestment from fossil fuels, delivering zero-carbon renewable energy projects and protection of our marine environment.

They were tackling air pollution, sustainability within communities, decarbonising transport, making rail- more attractive than road- transport. Between them they also were opposing fracking, banning single-use plastic, building a better economy around new Green investment, saving rural bus services, promoting green transport choices. There was no limit to their passion and their ambition for a better world.

We hope to be repeating the exercise, this April and May for GLD accredited candidates in this year's Local Elections. If you are standing and already accredited, contact me, Keith Melton, Vice Chair (Campaigns). If you wish to be a GLD accredited candidate, contact Peter Bruce, Vice Chair (Organisation) to go through the accreditation process. GOOD LUCK ALL! Thanks to Kevin Daws for doing all the Heroic Tweeting and George Miles for making the tech work on the website during this campaign!
