Next GLD HeroLet`s DO something about Plastics Pollution! Robert Eggelston (Robert Eggelston)

Councillor Robert Eggleston (leader of the Burgess Hill Town Council) is the Liberal Democrat candidate for Mid Sussex and is very concerned about the huge problems associated with plastics waste and was one of the authors of the plastics pollution motion that became Lib Dem policy at the 2018 Party conference...

"the world is choking in plastic waste, it is poisoning the oceans, killing wildlife and getting into the
food chain. We need urgent action at all levels: by individuals in their homes and communities;
national governments; and internationally through a binding treaty so we can
clean up the planet and bring this crisis to an end

Earlier in the year, in April 2018, Mid Sussex Liberal Democrats gave their overwhelming backing to Robert as their new candidate for MP. There was a large turn-out at the hustings in Haywards Heath, where Robert received over 90% of the members' vote.

Experience counts

Robert has extensive council experience at every level, having served on Burgess Hill Town (now leader), Mid Sussex District and, previously, East Sussex County councils. He has been a doughty champion of the interests of his community and local charities; and is a tireless champion of liberal values, particularly in support of the poor and disadvantaged. He has also been an effective and feared critic in opposition to the Tories in local government. His Twitter handle is @RobbieEggleston

He has championed Fairtrade in Burgess Hill, has promoted a series of annual music festivals in this cause and was part of the team that helped achieve Fairtrade status for West Sussex. He performs music as well as promoting local concerts. Here he speaks in 2011 about preserving a space for the arts in his home town:

"As someone who devotes considerable time and energy in promoting cultural events in the town I am absolutely
committed to the cause of having an arts centre that is fit for the twenty first century…I am sure Burgess Hill
Town Council will share that concern with me… I passionately believe that Burgess Hill can be a real
regional centre for the arts but we must provide the space and the facilities to make that happen

Making Change Happen

Councillor Robert Eggelston is a key member of the Green Liberal Democrats team which can, together, make environmental change happen in Parliament, so we'll be doing all we can to help get him elected. Will you join us?
