Energy and Democracy - Tory love affair with fracking defies logic and morality

Two announcements today throw into sharp relief the detachment from reality currently being suffered by the Tory government.

In one, it has been announced that the UK is among a group of EU countries being prosecuted by the EU for air pollution violations. This could lead to significant fines, which will no doubt be used by Brexit fanatics as a justification for leaving. After all, they are our children, so we can gas them if we want to!!!!

Liberal Democrats have fought for years to tighten regulations and improve lives with action on air pollution.

At our conference this Saturday one of the two sessions after lunch is scheduled as:

Managing Air Pollution - implications for transport and industry
Wera Hobhouse MP
Chair - Lynne Featherstone

The second is the announcement that the government plans to subvert local democracy by abusing permitted development planning rules, allowing companies to drill for gas and oil without seeking the permission of local people.

The Green Liberal Democrats have taken the lead in the fight against fracking within the party and beyond. Moreover we specifically forewarned on the Tory tendency in this direction, with our 2015 emergency motion on Energy and Democracy

At Saturday's Conference (tickets still available) one of the morning sessions is:
Green Campaigning - Frack Off

(with a speaker from Friends of the Earth)

Chair - Steve Mason

Libdems around the country need to raise awareness of this threat to local democracy, and campaign tirelessly to oppose the ongoing efforts of the Tory party to destroy the planet for corporate greed.

"We have no confidence in our regulators."
