The LGA reports that Radioactive Waste Management, the government body responsible for nuclear waste disposal facilities, is searching for a local authority willing to host an underground dump. Previous efforts to find voluntary recipients have failed. RWM says it has made "significant progress in developing the community offer", while energy minister Richard Harrington said that 1,000 construction jobs and 600 ongoing jobs would be created at the facility.
