Scottish Liberal Democrat energy spokesperson Liam McArthur MSP has today described the SNP as being on a long and slow road towards banning fracking as the Scottish Government launched a public consultation on the issue.

Mr McArthur said:

"The Scottish Government is drawing out their decision on fracking as long as possible.

"Opening up a whole new front of carbon-based fuels and energy production would do nothing to help meet our climate commitments. The sooner the SNP come to that conclusion, in accordance with the will of parliament, the better."
