South Lakes MP Tim Farron has welcomed the news that Kendal's Business Improvement District (BID) is working with North Country Leisure on plans for a cycling revolution for the town.
The scheme - for tourists as well as local people, will focus on both improving the current infrastructure and introducing the new initiative. Over the last couple of months the BID have been consulting with local stakeholders including businesses in Kendal to determine additional locations for things like extra secure cycle rack provision.
Last year, Tim called on Cumbria's councils to work together to improve cycling provision throughout the county.
Tim said: "Improving facilities for cycling in Kendal will be a great boost for residents and tourists alike. If we want to encourage the growth we have seen in cycling in recent years, we need to do more to create the local infrastructure to support that. I hope that these new facilities will be the first of many throughout the South Lakes. I hope that in a few years we see a cycling revolution in Cumbria."
