Scottish Liberal Democrat climate spokesperson Tavish Scott MSP hasTavish ScottTavish Scott told the Scottish Government to get its house in order after figures published today revealed that Scotland missed its climate change targets for the second year running.

Last year the Scottish Greenhouse Gas Emissions Annual report revealed that Scotland emitted 1.1 megatons over the target set by the Climate Change Act 2009. The target has been missed this year by 0.8MtCO2e.

Scottish Liberal Democrats have consistently warned that the Scottish Government's second draft Report on Policies and Proposals to tackle climate change remains too woolly. Mr Scott has said that the Scottish Government must get its house in order and bring real solutions to the table if it to have any chance of meeting next year's targets.

Commenting, Mr Scott said:

"It's a real kick in the teeth to miss our climate change targets once again. The Scottish Government needs to get its house in order. If we are to make a real mark on climate change and truly lead Europe in our efforts to bring down carbon emissions, the second report on policies and proposals must lead on substance and not spin.

"It's not good enough to croon about targets - it's meeting them that matters."
