Liberal Democrat Energy spokesperson Liam McArthur MSP has called on the Minister for Energy, Enterprise and Tourism to learn the lessons of last year over the distribution of heating oil which left supplies scarce and prices high.

Liam McArthur MSPLiam McArthur MSPFergus Ewing is due to meet with three oil distribution companies today and Mr McArthur is keen to ensure that supply problems last year which drove up the cost to people across Scotland have been addressed.

Commenting ahead of the meeting, Mr McArthur said:

"Last year, the price of heating oil soared as distribution problems left many without adequate supplies during one of the coldest winters on record.

"No one wants to see a repeat of that this year. The Minister must use this meeting with representatives of distribution companies as on opportunity to address the issues that caused misery for so many people.

"Ensuring the distribution network for heating oil is robust will go some way to stop the price spikes we saw last year.

"Ministers must understand that at a time when money is tight making sure heating oil is available to all is vital."
