Lib Dems win Fluoride Motion

December 6, 2011 6:20 PM

Thanks to the LibDems, and a motion moved by Lib Dem Cllr Gerry Drake and seconded by Lib Dem Cllr Maureen Turner, the Council has now voted by a significant majority to reverse its previous position and oppose the introduction of fluoride into the Southampton water supply.

Although the Strategic Health Authority, is in the dying days before its abolition and it is unclear who will be responsible in the future, the Council agreed to use any powers it may be given on future to block the addition of fluoride to our water supply.

Commenting on the almost defunct Strategic Health Authority position on fluoride Lib Dem Group Leader Cllr Adrian Vinson says:- "Not only is the majority of public opinion opposed to this, but the areas with the worst incidence of tooth decay will not even be covered!"
