Official Opening of Green Industry on Teesside

October 17, 2011 9:09 AM

Earlier this month Ian Swales attended the opening of a £20million offshore wind turbine production facility in Billingham by Chris Huhne, Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change.

Constructed in readiness for the Round 3 offshore wind developments and current European opportunities, the new facility in Haverton Hill on the banks of the River Tees, is the first of its kind in the UK and has the capacity to produce 100,000 Tonnes of tubulars every year.

Commenting on the development Ian Swales said:

"As a region we are going to have to build our way out of these difficult financial times. We have the skills and experience to lead the way on green manufacturing and with a Government committed to backing green industries the potential for new jobs is huge.

This new development marks the beginning of the region's green technology revolution. It was great to see Chris Huhne opening the new plant on Teesside. "
