Sutton commended in eco-award

October 20, 2011 1:53 PM

Sutton's street team is one of the greenest in the country, according to the judges of a top industry award.

Sutton Council's Fleet Services were commended in the Green Fleet Awards, which saw major corporations, green technology innovators and public sector organisations compete for awards.

Suttons's Fleet Services were one of only three to be commended in the small Public Sector section, thanks to its use of bio-diesel.

Cllr Colin Hall, Executive Member for Environment and Climate Change on Sutton Council, said: "The Street Service team's fleet of vehicles has been running on bio-diesel for five years now, so the reduction in carbon emissions has already had a big effect. To help reduce Sutton's carbon emissions it's important that we come up with smarter ways of delivering services, and reducing the emissions that each vehicle releases means that we can deliver the same services in a more eco-friendly way."
