Commenting on the news that a team of project managers from Scottish Government agency Transport Scotland will fill "key senior roles" to help complete the line between Edinburgh airport and the city Centre, Scottish Liberal Democrat Transport spokesperson Jim Hume MSP said:

"In welcoming this news, it is somewhat regrettable that the SNP refused to get involved before now. However looking forward, it is crucial that officials work constructively with Edinburgh City Council, to make sure the funding needed is available so that the Edinburgh Tram scheme can go ahead.

"This announcement should now mean that Edinburgh can enjoy the significant environmental and transport improvements that this project will offer the city.

"This step taken by the Scottish Government, after significant pressure from Scottish Liberal Democrats, will now make this a reality."
