Conservation area decision delights locals

August 2, 2011 11:34 PM

Councillor Chris Townsley (Lib Dem, Horsforth) is leading the celebrations following the announcement that Horsforth Cragg Hill and Woodside Area is recommended to become a fully fledged conservation area.

The decision was made after critical funding of £6,000 from the North West Outer Area Committee was secured. The protection of the area is scheduled to begin from the 5th August this year.

Cllr Townsley said:

"This is really great news for the community shows the real impact local action and pressure from ward councillors can have on decision making. Developers will now not be able to destroy the unique and glorious heritage of Horsforth, which is close to the heart of residents.

"It's really important to note that this has all become possible because of the hard work and dedication of the Cragg Hill and Woodside Residents Group, who campaigned so hard for this. Myself and the other ward members were delighted to be able to support them behind the scenes, but this victory belongs to them."

"The Conservation Area will provide a much needed belt of protection to an area of fine housing, beautiful woodland and clear historical interest to Leeds."
