Liberal Democrat Secretary of State for Energy & Climate Change, Chris Huhne's, plans to decarbonise the UK's electricity generation announced last week have been met with the predictable barrage of LibDem bashing in our great & glorious print media. The weeping & wailing is about the alleged cost to the consumer. For the record that 'cost' is estimated at £200 by year 2030, that is over 20yrs. Next month British Gas & Scottish Power (very probably closely followed by the rest of the big suppliers) are bringing in price increases of about £200 (for most people) all at once. Kind of puts Chris's proposals into perspective does it not? And yes he is trying to deal with this immediate increase but these are commercial businesses (thanks to the Tories 'Sid' - remember him? - many, now, not even British owned), so there is a limit to what Chris can do.
