Mulholland gets on two wheels to launch Otley Bike to School Week

May 4, 2011 12:29 PM

Otley MP, Greg Mulholland, has today launched the Otley Bike to School Week, to encourage more children to ride their bikes to school. The national event has got the support of a host of groups in Otley including Otley Town Council, Bike it and Bike Hub, as well as Otley's very own Commonwealth Games, silver medal winning cyclist, Lizzie Armitstead.

The Bike to School Week will be taking place between the 26th and 30th of April and is aiming to encourage more children to use their bikes to do the school run.

Greg commented:

"This is a fantastic initiative and it was great to see so many kids and parents joining in

"It is so important that we encourage children to use their bikes to get to and from school, not just to reduce the number of cars on the roads during the school run but also to get children out and about and active before and after school

"I hope that this week will really encourage children and parents to get their bikes out and ride to school. Hopefully we will see more and more people doing their bit to reduce the number of cars on the road, whilst having fun and staying fit!"
