Stalled talks threaten climate justice - Hughes

December 14, 2009 2:34 PM

Commenting from Copenhagen on the suspension of negotiations at the UN climate summit, Liberal Democrat Shadow Energy and Climate Change Secretary, Simon Hughes said:

"This walkout shows that an acceptable deal is far from certain, with negotiations on a knife edge.

"While there are still huge differences between the rich world and developing countries, politicians must remember that the cost of putting off action now will be a much higher price to pay in the future.

"The active participation and commitment of all countries is crucial to any successful agreement.

"Unless the UK and other countries responsible for most of the world's emissions get their acts together, these talks threaten to disappoint all those fighting for climate justice."
