Responding to today's Government announcement of new measures to make transport fuels greener by requiring 5% of all UK fuel sold on UK forecourts to come from a renewable source by 2010, Liberal Democrat Shadow DTI Secretary and MP for North Norfolk, Norman Lamb, said:
"This commitment is not before time and presents a win-win situation."
He continued, "It is good for the environment, although more needs to be done to cut further the present level of carbon emissions. It will make the UK less dependent on securing its fuel supplies from unstable parts of the globe, and as many as 30,000 jobs could be created in the rural economy to grow and process the necessary crops."
Commenting further, Mr. Lamb said, "The only regret is that the Government has taken so long to implement a policy that the Liberal Democrats have been advocating for some time."
