ECJ Ruling On UK Emissions Trading Scheme - Davies

November 23, 2005 2:55 PM

Commenting on today's European Court ruling which forces the Commission to consider the UK's proposal to increase its carbon dioxide limit Chris Davies, leader of the British Liberal Democrat MEPs and his party's spokesman on climate change, said: "With Britain's global warming emissions actually on the increase this is hardly a good moment to relax the reduction targets.

"With the emissions trading scheme now in place the UK Government would do best to claim this decision as a moral victory but accept the need to set a standard for the rest of Europe."
