Industrial chimney pollution (smoke).Norman Baker MP, Liberal Democrat Shadow Environment Secretary, commenting on DEFRA's warning that the current high temperatures means high levels of air pollution, said:

"While we bask in this heatwave, we must remember that summer ozone levels are a serious health risk.

"Smogs are a huge 'hidden killer'. We must stop choking our cities and ourselves.

"The Government is right to highlight the dangers of increased ozone levels, but this warning can only be taken seriously if it comes with a genuine commitment to reducing traffic growth and increasing renewable energy use."
