Constituents welcome positive step in ban on wild animals in circuses

August 29, 2012 11:18 AM

Jo Swinson MP for East Dunbartonshire, along with dozens of concerned constituents, has welcomed Government plans to publish an initial draft bill banning wild animals in circuses. In addition the Government will put in place regulations in time for the start of the 2013circus season to better protect animals in circuses before the ban can be brought into place.

Commenting Jo said:

"The announcement was another positive step towards the final goal of an outright ban and I wholeheartedly welcome this news.

"The move should make a huge difference to the life of many wild animals currently in circuses.

"There's still a way to go, but I will continue to work hard on this issue."

Commenting Mavis Leonard from Bishopbriggs said:

"There can be no place in civilised society to lock a wild animal in a cage alone, transport it for miles and for the duration of its life force it to perform unnatural behaviours in an unnatural environment."
